If you try to shoot a christmas tree you either end up with a picture postcard (70ties style) or crap (also 70ties style). At least that’s what I get 
To get a different result I started working on the exposure. So I shot this pic where you cannot see the actual ball, only the light refracted.I could have gotten more out of it if I had used a rim light. But that’s an exercise for you!
